You're Gonna Miss Me (When I'm Gone): Celebratory Track By Track (Day Twelve)

Celebratory track by track of songs from The Answer: You’re Gonna Miss Me (When I’m Gone)

You’re Gonna Miss Me (When I’m Gone) is another favourite of mine on the album. I wrote it with the lovely Dan Smith (of The Noisettes). I travelled to his house in Brighton - the sun was shining in through his bay window while we wrote this song together and built up the demo. I found it really interesting the way we wrote the lyrics, unlike my usual forlorn and beaten tone of writing, with this song, I tapped into a sort of rage - similarly to how I wrote the track, Curse The Day.

Dan is an incredibly inspiring musician, writer & producer. I invited him to produce this track at StudiOwz (when it was on the old dairy farm). We had such a great time recording this with Owain (StudiOwz owner & engineer on this session) and my core band, Jimmy Brewer on Guitars, Jack Beddis on Drums/Percussion & Tom Sinnett on Bass. Dan played the Farfisa organ (which I love!), Moog synth, Vox organ, percussion, and he sang backing vocals. I also sang backing vocals, played the Piano and Wurlitzer on this track. There were a lot of sounds from recording You’re Gonna Miss Me (When I’m Gone) that we used frequently throughout the rest of the album, such as the Vox Organ. I feel between us all, over those few days recording at StudiOwz, we created something truly special - I’m so happy with how this song turned out.

I have a really fond memory recording the backing vocals with Dan in the live room together and having a right laugh! It’s so lovely to meet people you really connect with in the studio, it’s such an important factor. Everyone who’s worked on this album, has treated my music with the utmost respect and I feel so fortunate to have created it with such talented people, that I now call my closest friends.
